Fuel Filter: Description and Operation
Fuel Tank Sender - Typical:
In Line Fuel Filter - 2.5L Engine:
Two types of fuel filters are used. They are in-line filters on fuel injected units, or internal carburetor filters on carbureted models and sending unit filter socks.
Sending unit filter socks are located at the bottom of the fuel pickup tube in the fuel tank. This filter prevents dirt from entering the fuel line. The filter also prevents water from entering the fuel line unless it is completely submerged in water.
A plugged in-line or internal fuel filter will cause a lack of power or prevent the engine from running.
