Engine: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Hood.
3. Upper radiator hose at the radiator.
^ Drain the cooling system.
4. Overflow hose.
5. Upper fan shroud.
6. Transmission oil cooler lines (if equipped).
7. Radiator.
8. Fan.
9. Heater hoses.
10. Air cleaner.
11. Vacuum hoses.
12. All necessary wires at the bulkhead, ground wires, and main feed wires.
13. Throttle cable and cruise control cable (if equipped).
14. Distributor cap.
15. Converter to exhaust pipe bolts.
^ Raise the vehicle.
16. Exhaust pipes at the manifolds.
17. Strut rods at the bell housing.
18. Flywheel cover bolts and flywheel cover (if equipped).
19. Torque converter bolts.
20. Shield at rear of catalytic converter.
21. Converter hanger at exhaust pipe.
22. Lower fan shroud.
23. Fuel lines and hoses.
24. Two outer air dam bolts.
25. Left body mount bolts.
^ Install jackstands.
^ Raise the body.
26. Bell housing bolts.
^ Lower the body.
27. Motor mount through bolts.
28. Jackstands.
^ Lower the vehicle.
29. Air conditioning compressor (if equipped).
30. Power steering pump (if equipped).
31. Engine.
32. Support the transmission with a floor jack.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Engine into the vehicle.
^ Remove the transmission support.
^ Raise the vehicle.
2. Motor mount through bolts.
Tighten
^ Bolt to specification, 114 Nm (85 ft. lb.)
3. Lower bell housing bolts.
^ Raise the body.
4. Upper bell housing bolts.
^ Lower the body.
5. Remaining bell housing bolts.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 74 Nm (55 ft. lb.)
6. Body mount bolts.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lb.)
7. Power steering pump (if equipped).
Tighten
^ Bracket bolts to 49 Nm (36 ft. lb.)
8. Air conditioning compressor (if equipped).
9. Two outer air dam bolts.
10. Fuel lines and hoses.
11. Lower fan shroud.
12. Converter hanger at exhaust pipe.
13. Shield at rear of catalytic converter.
14. Torque converter bolts (if equipped).
Tighten
^ Bolts to 47 Nm (35 ft. lb.)
15. Flywheel cover and bolts (if equipped).
16. Strut rods at the bell housing.
17. Exhaust pipes to the manifolds.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lb.)
18. Converter to exhaust pipe bolts.
19. Distributor cap.
^ Lower the vehicle.
20. Throttle cable and cruise control cable (if equipped).
21. All necessary wires at the bulkhead, ground wires, and main feed wires.
22. Vacuum hoses.
23. Air cleaner.
24. Heater hoses.
25. Fan.
26. Radiator.
27. Transmission oil cooler lines (if equipped).
Tighten
^ To case 22 Nm (16 ft. lb.)
28. Upper fan shroud.
29. Overflow hose.
30. Upper radiator hose at the radiator.
31. Coolant into the cooling system.
32. Hood.
33. Negative battery cable.
