SUBJECT: "CHECK GAGES" LIGHT FLICKERS AT IDLE
MODELS: 1986-88 S/T TRUCKS WITH 2.8L
Condition
The "Check Gages" light on 1986-88 S/T trucks with 2.8L engine and optional gage cluster may flicker at idle. The flicker will go away as soon as the engine speed is above normal idle.
Cause
The off pressure sender is a combination unit, with both a sender for the gage and a switch for the light. The calibration of the switch is high enough to allow the light to come on with the reduced oil pressure normally found at idle (6 to 10 psi).
Correction
1. Insure that the engine has at lease 6 psi oil pressure at idle by using an external gage.
2. Replace the sender with P/N 10137603.
