A/T - 700R4 Clunk On 2-3 Gear Shift

SUBJECT: 700 R4

PROBLEM:

Clunk on the 2-3 shift, no matter what the T.V. pressure.

CAUSE:

The problem may be too much clearance between the reverse input drum lugs and the reaction sun shell lugs.

SOLUTION:

1. Find the position for the two that give the most clearance between lugs. This is your maximum contact position.

2. Mark the reverse input drum and the reaction sun shell so that when installed, they mate exactly like they were when you worked on it.

3. Center punch the reaction sun shell to give a tighter connection.




CENTER PUNCH ONLY IN AREA SHOWN IN 3 TO 4 PLACES ON EACH LUG.
