Model and Year: 1985-89 M VANS WITH MANUAL 5-SPEED TRANSMISSION
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

Some 1985-1989 M Vans equipped with 5-speed manual transmissions may experience Gear Hop-Out in cold weather. This condition is caused by the boot assembly exerting sufficient force on the shift lever to pull the transmission out of gear. This condition is unique to cold weather operation.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

Replace the existing boot and lever with a new design boot, lever and insulator.

SERVICE MANUAL REFERENCES:

Refer to the Shift Controls section of the appropriate service manual for replacement of existing assemblies.

3. P/N 15642222 - Insulator Assembly - Manual Transmission Control Lever Boot

Parts are expected to be available on 7-14-89. Until then normal parts orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be cancelled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place.
