Dear Chevrolet Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the

National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

REASON FOR THIS RECALL

General Motors has determined that certain 1987 Chevrolet "G" Vans fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 301, "Fuel System Integrity". These vehicles were assembled with fuel tank lower filler pipes which might have small holes at some spot weld used to attach a mounting bracket. These small holes could allow fuel to leak from the pipe during situations such as refueling and turning maneuvers. In the event of a collision impact, a leaky filler pipe could allow fuel spillage in excess of the amount presribed by FMVSS 301. Fuel spillage during and after a collision could result in fire.

WHAT WE WILL DO

To correct this non-compliance, your Chevrolet dealer will replace the fuel tank lower filler pipe on your vehicle. This service will be completed for you at no charge.
