SUBJECT: INSIDE DOOR HANDLE MISALIGNMENT
MODELS: 1985-1986 C/K AND 1987 R/V MODELS
FIGURE NO. 1:
Some 1985-1986 C/K models and 1987 R/V models may have inside front and rear door handles that are misaligned. This misalignment may result in difficulty in getting fingers around the handle to release the latch. This condition is due to the rubber bumper shown in Figure No. 1 coming loose from the door handle bumper post. The rubber bumper may still be in the door handle assembly or it may have fallen inside the door. If the rubber bumper cannot be located or is damaged, a 3/8" piece of 1/4" I.D. x 1/2" O.D. rubber fuel line may be substituted.
To repair this condition, the following procedure can be used.
1. Remove door trim panel.
2. Remove door handle from door.
3. Clean rubber bumper and bumper post of oil, grease and dirt.
4. Apply "Loctite Black Max" adhesive or equivalent to the bumper post.
5. Install bumper.
6. Reinstall door trim panel.
Notice. Glue set time for the Black Max adhesive is 60 minutes. For maximum retention, allow a 24 hour cure time.
Time to make this repair is .4 hrs. per handle.
