Series 10---30/1500---3500
1. Remove intake manifold.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold.
3. Lower vehicle, then disconnect AIR hose from check valve.
4. If removing right side cylinder head, proceed as follows:
a. Remove exhaust manifold, then disconnect AIR pipe at cylinder head and diverter valve.
b. Disconnect oil filler tube and PCV valve.
c. Disconnect wiring harness, then remove valve cover.
d. Remove alternator mounting bolt, then disconnect spark plug wires and remove spark plugs.
e. Remove rocker arms and pushrods.
f. Remove cylinder head attaching bolts, then the cylinder head.
5. If removing left side cylinder head:
a. Remove exhaust manifold, then disconnect power steering pump and A/C compressor, if equipped, and position aside.
b. Remove valve cover, then disconnect spark plug wires and remove spark plugs.
c. Remove rocker arms and pushrods.
d. Remove cylinder head attaching bolts, then the cylinder head. Before installing cylinder head, check gasket surfaces on both head and block for nicks or heavy scratches. Bolt threads in block and threads on head bolts must be clean as dirt will affect bolt torque.
6. On engines using steel gasket, coat both sides of gasket using suitable sealer. On engines equipped with steel/asbestos type gasket, no sealer should be used.
7. Place gasket in position over dowel pins, then carefully lower cylinder head into place.
8. Coat threads of cylinder head bolts with suitable sealer, then install bolts finger tight.
9. Tighten each bolt a little at a time in sequence shown in Fig. 15 until specified torque is reached.
10. Install intake manifold, then torque bolts to specification in sequence shown in Fig. 10.
11. Install exhaust manifold.
12. Install valve train, then adjust valves as outlined in ``Valves, Adjust'' procedure.
