Seat Belts - Upfitter Responsibility
CHEVROLET NUMBER: 87-T-74
SECTION: 10 - Body Section
DATE: February, 1987
SUBJECT: SEAT BELT LENGTH
MODELS: ALL LIGHT DUTY TRUCK MODELS
Some "upfitters" of light duty Chevrolet and GMC trucks install seat assemblies which relocate the General Motors retractor assembly and buckle attachment points with respect to the original installation. Seat and seat belt locations are determined by General Motors and conform to regulations set forth by the Federal Government.
When relocation of seats and/or seat belt assemblies is performed by the upfitter, the upfitter is responsible for certifying seat and seat belt locations and performance to the Federal requirements and for providing retrofit seat belts or extenders. Comments of inadequate seat belt length and requests for seat belt extenders in this situation should be directed to the "upfitter".
