Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

Fuel Injector Removal (4 Cylinder Models Similar):





REMOVAL

1. Relieve fuel pressure. Refer to "Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure".
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Disconnect injector(s) connector by squeezing two tabs together and pulling straight up.
4. Remove fuel meter cover. Refer to "Fuel Meter Cover, Replace". Do not remove meter cover gasket from fuel meter body.
5. Pry injector out of fuel meter body using a suitable screwdriver and bar stock, Fig. 339.
6. Remove and discard O-rings, washers, injector fuel filter and meter cover gasket.

Fuel Injector Installation:





INSTALLATION

1. Using a twisting motion, install new injector filter on injector.
2. Lubricate replacement small O-ring with automatic transmission fluid, then push O-ring onto nozzle end of injector until seated against injector fuel filter.
3. Install meter body back-up washer in top counterbore of fuel meter body injector cavity, Fig. 340.
4. Lubricate replacement large O-ring with automatic transmission fluid, then install over meter body back-up washer in injector cavity. Ensure large O-ring is seated properly in cavity and is flush with top of fuel meter body casting surface.
5. Install injector in injector cavity, aligning raised lug on injector with notch in fuel meter body cavity.
6. Push down on injector until fully seated in cavity, Fig. 341. At this time injector electrical terminals should be approximately parallel to throttle shaft.
7. Install fuel meter cover. Refer to "Fuel Meter Cover, Replace".
8. Connect electrical connector, then install air cleaner assembly.
