Unit Inspection and Overhaul

1. Thoroughly wash transmission case inside and out with suitable solvent, then inspect case for cracks.

2. Check front and rear faces for burrs and correct if necessary.

3. Inspect all main drive gear and countergear roller bearings and replace as required, then inspect countershaft and reverse idler shaft together and replace if necessary. Replace all worn spacers.

Wash front and rear ball bearings in suitable solvent and blow out bearings with compressed air.

NOTE: Do not allow bearings to spin. Turn them slowly by hand. Spinning bearings may damage race and balls.

5. Lubricate bearings and check for roughness by slowly turning race by hand.

6. Inspect all gears for excessive wear, chips, or cracks and replace if damaged or worn.

7. Check oil seal contact area on drive gear shaft and replace gear if pitted, rusted, or cracked.

8. Inspect interlock levers for cracking at detent and clearance notches at either end of levers.

9. Inspect shift forks for wear and inspect fork shaft bores in shift lever.
