SUBJECT: INCORRECT WHEEL WRENCH

MODELS: 1988 G 35 VANS BUILT AT LORDSTOWN
General Motors has determined that certain 1988 G 35 Vans built at Lordstown Van Plant may have been shipped with an incorrect wheel lug nut wrench. To correct this condition, it will be necessary to install a new wheel lug nut wrench in all involved vehicles. Since a new wheel lug nut wrench can be easily installed and to reduce owner inconvenience, new wheel lug nut wrenches and storage instructions will be sent directly to owners of record. Owners may install the wrench or they may ask a dealer to do the service. Dealer service is to be done at no charge to owners.

The specific vehicles involved in this campaign have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number Computer Listings. These listings and a new wheel lug nut wrench for each vehicle for which there is no owner of record have been furnished to involved dealers with the campaign bulletin. If a vehicle has been recently delivered, and the owner's name is not on your VIN listing, please contact the owner to have the new wheel lug nut wrench installed. It is your responsibility to see that the new wheel lug nut wrenches are installed on recently sold vehicles.

DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY

Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mile age, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used vehicle inventory, or it is in your dealership for service in the future, you should take the steps necessary to ensure the campaign correction has been made before reselling or releasing the vehicle. Owners of vehicles recently sold from your new vehicle inventory are to be contacted by the dealer and arrangements made to make the required correction according to instructions contained in this bulletin. If no owner's name and address were available to GMC Truck Division at the time of campaign initiation, the dealer will determine the owner's and address from the dealership sales records. Please provide this information directly on the second copy of the listing next to the applicable VIN so that our records may be updated and the appropriate notification mailed to the owner. This second copy should then be submitted to the address listed below in the previously supplied yellow campaign envelopes.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

Owners will be notified of this campaign on their vehicles by GMC Truck Division (see copy of Owner Letter included with this bulletin). A listing of owner names and addresses has been furnished to the involved dealers to enable dealers to follow up with owners involved in this campaign. This listing may contain owner names and addresses obtained from state motor vehicle registration records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing to this campaign.

PARTS INFORMATION

A new wheel lug nut wrench required for each vehicle involved will be mailed to owners of record and involved dealers by GMC truck on a no charge basis. If additional wheel lug nut wrenches are required, they may be obtained by contacting Adistra Corporation, (313) 456-9072.

** The $1.12 amount identified in the "Parts Allowance" column above represents 30% of dealer net for parts that were furnished by GMC Truck Division. This amount is to be placed in the Net Item Amount column of the claim and use type Code "M".

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL

Each vehicle corrected in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Product Campaign Bulletin will require a "Campaign Identification Label". Each label provides a space to include the five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ball point pen. Each "Campaign Identification Label" is to be located on the radiator core support in an area which will be visible when the vehicle is brought in for perriodic servicing by the owner. Apply "Campaign Identification Label" only on a clean, dry surface.

STORAGE OF TIRE AND JACK


CAUTION: Always securely store the spare tire assembly (or flat tire), all jacking equipement, and any covers or doors, using the means provided. This will help keep such things from being thrown about and injuring people during a collision or sudden maneuver.

In view of this possibility, it will be necessary to install a new wheel lug nut wrench in all involved vehicles.

Since a new wheel lug nut wrench can be easily installed and to reduce your inconvenience, we are enclosing a new wheel lug nut wrench with storage instructions. The wrench should be installed behind the spare tire in your van. However, if you desire, your GMC Truck dealer will install the wheel wrench for you at no charge.

Please let us know if you elect to install the new wheel lug nut wrench by completing the enclosed postage paid owner reply card and returning it to us. This will assist us in assuring that all affected vehicles have been corrected.
