Fluid Change
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Place a suitable container under transmission oil pan, then remove attaching bolts from front and sides of oil pan.
3. Loosen rear attaching bolts approximately four turns, then carefully pry oil pan loose and allow fluid to drain.
4. Remove remaining bolts and separate oil pan from transmission.
5. Drain remaining fluid from pan, then clean pan and gasket surfaces with a suitable solvent and thoroughly dry with compressed air.
6. On 1987-88 vehicles, remove screen/filter, gasket and intake pipe. Clean screen in solvent and dry with compressed air. If applicable, paper or felt filter should be replaced. Install screen/filter assembly, using a new intake pipe O-ring, and torque retaining bolt to 10 ft. lbs.
7. On 1989-90 vehicles, remove the filter, spacer and intake pipe. Install filter assembly with spacer, using a new intake pipe O-ring and torque retaining bolt to 8 ft. lbs.
8. On all models, install oil pan with a new gasket. Torque attaching bolts to 12 ft. lbs.
9. Lower vehicle and add 5 pints of Dexron II or Dexron III transmission fluid through filler tube.
10. With transmission in Park, start engine and run at idle.
11. With brakes applied, Move transmission through each gear range and return to Park position, then recheck fluid level. Add additional fluid to bring level to full mark on dipstick.
