Owner Letter
Dear GMC Truck Owner:This notice is being sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
General Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1988 C/K 15-25 model trucks built at Ft. Wayne. One or both of the outer tie rod nuts may be loose and not crimped. A loss of one or both of these nuts could lead to the outer tie rod(s) disengaging from the steering knuckle resulting in a possible loss of steering control which could lead to a vehicle crash without prior warning.
To prevent this condition from occurring it will be necessary to inspect the outer tie rod nuts for crimping. If a non-crimped nut is found, the tie rod and knuckle are to be replaced and the toein set. Please contact your dealer to arrange a service date. This service will be completed for you at no charge.
Instructions for performing this service have been sent to your GMC Truck dealer. It is estimated that parts will be available to your dealer on September 1, 1987. The inspection will take approximately 15 minutes, and an additional 1-1/2 to 3 hours may also be needed if he rod and knuckle replacement is required. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much additional time is needed to process your vehicle.
