Engine: Service and Repair


1. Remove hood.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air cleaner.
3. Drain cooling system.
4. Disconnect radiator and heater hoses, then remove radiator and fan shroud.
5. Disconnect wires at starter solenoid, alternator, TRC speed switch, TRC solenoid, temperature and oil pressure switches, and the distributor.
6. Disconnect accelerator linkage from intake manifold.
7. Disconnect fuel line from fuel pump and fuel vapor hose from vapor storage canister, if applicable.
8. Disconnect brake booster vacuum line from intake manifold, if equipped.
9. Remove power steering pump and A/C compressor, if equipped. Do not disconnect hoses from pump or compressor.
10. Raise and support vehicle, then drain crankcase.
11. Disconnect exhaust pipes from manifolds and converter bracket from transmission mount, if equipped.
12. Disconnect wires, then remove starter motor.
13. Remove flywheel splash shield or converter housing cover.
14. On automatic transmission equipped vehicles, remove converter to flex plate attaching bolts.
15. On all models, lower vehicle, then attach a suitable engine lifting device.
16. Remove engine mount through bolts, then the bellhousing to engine attaching bolts.
17. Support transmission, then disconnect motor mounts from engine brackets.
18. Remove engine from vehicle.
19. Reverse procedure to install.
