SUBJECT: INJECTION PUMP TIMING
MODELS: ALL 1988 MODELS EQUIPPED WITH 6.2L DIESEL ENGINES
Beginning 1988, all 6.2L diesel engines will be timed both statically and dynamically at assembly. These two timing procedures will use different methods of setting the timing. As in previously built 6.2L diesel engines, the housing flange and the injection pump flange will continue to have lines as the static timing marks. The addition for the 1988 model year engine will be a dynamic timing mark. The dynamic timing mark will be a letter "O" stamped across the joint flange of both the engine and injection pump flange points. The let- ter "O" will be the correct timing mark when setting of the engine timing is required, by alignment of both halves of the letter "O". An exception to the dynamic timing method is required if a new service replacement injection pump replaces the original pump. In this case, the static timing mark will be the correct method of timing the engine by alignment of these marks. Timing meters are not recommended for engine timing requirements.
