Owner Letter
Dear GMC Truck Owner:This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
General Motors has determined that 1989-90 CK 15-35 Extended Cab trucks contain incorrect instructions on how to properly adjust the rear seat lap-shoulder belts. Since the instructions provided do not describe the "proper use" of the seat belt assembly, they fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies For Use In Passenger Cars, Multi-purpose Passenger vehicles, Trucks and Buses".
To correct this condition, we have enclosed an Owner's Manual insert containing the correct rear lap-shouider belt instructions. The information in this insert replaces the "LAP-SHOULDER BELTS" information found on pages 1-9 through 1-11 of your Owner's Manual. Please read the enclosed insert carefully before inserting it in your Owner's Manual. The Owner's Manual and enclosed insert should be furnished to any subsequent owners so that they will have the correct instructions. If you have sold or traded your truck, please complete the enclosed postage-paid reply card and return it to us.
If you are not satisfied with the action we have taken to remedy this non-compliance, you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590, or call the toll free Auto Safety Hotline at 1-800-424-9393 (Washington D.C. residents may call 426-0123).
We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your safety and continued satisfaction with our products.
