Inspection

1. Clean boost valve, pressure regulator valve and converter clutch control valve, then check for nicks, scoring or other damage. If OK soak valves in transmission fluid.

2. Clean pump seal rings, then check for side wear or other damage.

3. Clean pump body and gears, reassemble in original position and measure clearance between gear face and pump face with a straight edge and feeler gage. Clearance should be 0.0005-0.0325 inch, then remove gears.

4. Inspect converter housing oil seal and bushing. If necessary, remove bushing using tools J 21465-17 and J 8092 or equivalents.

5. Inspect converter hub for nicks, burrs or other damage that could cause oil seal or bushing wear or failure.

6. Inspect front oil pump bushing. If necessary, remove bushing using tools Nos. J29369-1 and J 7004 or equivalents.

7. Inspect rear inner pump hub bushing. If necessary remove bushing by threading a 3/4 inch standard pipe tap into bushing from the rear, inverting the pump, and pressing the bushing out, pressing on the pipe tap with a punch. Protect pump face with a cloth.

8. Inspect reverse clutch plates for wear and damage. Replace if necessary.
