Engine: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Battery negative cable.
2. Underhood light.
3. Hood.
4. Air cleaner.
5. Upper fan shroud.
6. Radiator hoses at radiator.
7 Drain the cooling system.
8. Radiator.
9. Fan and fan clutch.
10. Air conditioning compressor (if equipped).
11. Power steering pump (if equipped).
12. Fuel lines and hoses.
13. Vacuum hoses.
14. Throttle cable and cruise control cable (if equipped).
15. Heater hoses at the engine.
16. Engine wiring harness at the bulkhead.
17. Ground strap at the bulkhead.
18. Lower fan shroud.
19. Battery negative cable at engine.
20. Main feed wire at bulkhead.
21. Distributor cap.
22. Diverter valve.
23. Console cover.
24. Shifter boot.
25. Transfer case shifter.
26. Transmission shift lever and shifter.
27. Raise the vehicle. Support with suitable safety stands.
28. Front skid plate.
29. Rear skid plate.
30. Front splash shield.
31. Fluid from the transfer case.
32. Fluid from the transmission.
33. Rear propeller shaft.
34. Speedometer cable.
35. Front propeller shaft at the transfer case.
36. Shift linkage at the case.
37. Vacuum hoses at the case.
38. Parking brake cable.
39. Rear motor mount.
40. Catalytic converter bracket.
41. Transfer case bolts. Support the transfer case.
42. Transfer case from the vehicle.
43. Crossmember.
44. Back up light wire and clip.
45. Slave cylinder attaching bolts and lay the cylinder aside.
46. Transmission bolts.
47. Transmission from the vehicle.
48. Clutch release bearing.
49. Inspection cover.
50. Left body mount bolts and loosen the left radiator bolt.
51. Raise the left side of the body and install a wood block.
52. Bell housing.
53. Exhaust pipes at manifolds.
54. Exhaust pipe at the converter.
55. Clutch cross shaft at the frame.
56. Starter bolts.
57. Starter wires.
58. Motor mount through bolts.
59. Lower the vehicle.
60. Engine.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Engine into the vehicle.
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Motor mount through bolts.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 114 Nm (85 ft. lb.)
4. Starter wires.
5. Clutch cross shaft at the frame.
6. Exhaust pipe at the converter.
7. Exhaust pipes at the manifolds.
8. Bell housing.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 74 Nm (55 ft. lb.)
9. Left body mount bolts and left radiator bolt. Lower the body.
10. Inspection cover.
11. Clutch release bearing.
12. Transmission into the vehicle.
13. Transmission bolts.
14. Slave cylinder and bolts.
15. Back up light wire and clip.
16. Crossmember.
17. Transfer case.
18. Transfer case bolts.
19. Catalytic converter bracket.
20. Rear motor mount.
21. Parking brake cable.
22. Vacuum hoses at the case.
23. Shift linkage at the case.
24. Front propeller shaft at the transfer case.
25. Speedometer cable.
26. Rear propeller shaft.
27. Transmission fluid.
28. Transfer case fluid.
29. Front splash shield.
30. Rear skid plate.
31. Front skid plate.
32. Transmission shift lever and shifter. Lower the vehicle.
33. Transfer case shifter.
34. Shifter boot.
35. Console cover.
36. Diverter valve.
37. Distributor cap.
38. Main feed wires at bulkhead.
39. Battery negative cable at the engine.
40. Lower fan shroud.
41. Ground strap at the bulkhead.
42. Engine wiring harness at the bulkhead.
43. Heater hoses at the engine.
44. Throttle cable and cruise control cable (if equipped).
45. Vacuum hoses.
46. Fuel lines and hoses.
47. Power steering pump (if equipped).
Tighten
^ Bracket bolts to 49 Nm (36 ft. lb.)
48. Air conditioning compressor (if equipped).
49. Fan and fan clutch.
50. Radiator.
51. Radiator hoses.
52. Coolant into the cooling system.
53. Upper fan shroud.
54. Air cleaner.
55. Hood.
56. Underhood light.
57. Negative battery cable.
