Recall - Incorrect Fuel Filler Housing Installed: Overview

89chevy11

NUMBER: 89-E-03

GROUP: 6C - Engine Fuel

DATE: June, 1989
SUBJECT: INCORRECT FUEL FILLER HOUSING INSTALLED

MODELS: 1989 M-VAN WITH REMOTE CONTROL LOCKING FUEL FILLER DOORS (NO8)
General Motors has determined that certain 1989 M-Vans equipped with remote control locking fuel filler doors (NO8) were shipped with the incorrect fuel filler housing. Fuel filler housings for leaded fuel option were installed. The incorrect housing does not have the words "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY" molded in along the bottom flange. Without these words, these vehicles do not meet the requirements of the Clean Air Act. To correct this condition, it will be necessary to install a label which reads "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY". Since a new label can be easily installed and to reduce owner inconvenience, the label will be sent directly to owners of record. Owners may install the label or they may ask a dealer to do the service. Dealer service is to be done at no charge to owners.

Involved are certain 1989 M-Vans built within the following VIN breakpoints:

The specific vehicles involved in this campaign have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number Computer Listings. These listings and a new label for each vehicle for which there is no owner of record have been furnished to involved dealers with the campaign bulletin. If a vehicle has been recently delivered, and the owner's name is not on your VIN listing, please contact the owner to have the new label installed. It is your responsibility to see that the new label is installed on recently sold vehicles.
Dealer Campaign Responsibility

Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward. Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used vehicle inventory, or it is in your dealership for service in the future, you should take the steps necessary to ensure the campaign correction has been made before reselling or releasing the vehicle. Owners of vehicles recently sold from your new vehicle inventory are to be contacted by the dealer and arrangements made to make the required correction according to instructions contained in this bulletin. If no owner's name and address were available to GMC Truck Division at the time of campaign initiation, the dealer will determine the owner's name and address from the dealership sales records. Please provide this information directly on the second copy of the listing next to the applicable VIN so that our records may be updated and the appropriate notification mailed to the owner. This second copy should then be submitted to the address listed below in the previously supplied yellow campaign envelopes.
