SUBJECT: ELIMINATION OF PRESENT COMFORT SET FEATURE ON SHOULDER BELT
MODELS: 1991 C/K, R/V AND G LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS AND VANS
The purpose of this service bulletin is to notify all GMC Sales and Service personnel of a change in the seatbelt restraint system. The comfort feature is being removed from the shoulder belts at all occupant positions in the 1991 C/K and R/V models and from the driver and front passenger position only in the 1991 G Van.
The comfort feature is replaced with a belt that has a reduced spring load in the retractor motor which results in a minimal but constant force against the occupant's body. Simultaneously, the spring main- tains a force adequate to retract and stow the shoulder belt webbing when the belt is not in use.
Important
Users should continue to exercise care during belt release in order to avoid interior damage to the vehicle and avoid twisting of the webbing.
Sales and service personnel should be aware of this change in the restraint system in order to address any questions that may occur as a result of the change, and help General Motors continue to promote effective safety belt use.
