Throttle Position Sensor: Adjustments

TPS Adjustment Check:

Make adjustments, only after the minimum idle speed has been adjusted, or throttle body parts have been replaced. A scan tester may also be used for this adjustment procedure or test.

1. Disconnect TPS connector and connect jumpers between the harness connector and the TPS sensor. Connect a suitable digital voltmeter from TPS connector terminal A to center terminal B.

2. Turn ignition switch to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine. The TPS voltage reading should be .42 volts to .45 volts.

3. If voltage reading is higher than described in step 2, loosen the TPS retainer screws and rotate the the TPS sensor until a reading of .42 volts to .45 volts is obtained.

4. If voltage reading is satisfactory, tighten the retaining screws and and remove the voltmeter and jumper leads. Reconnect the TPS connector.

5. If proper voltage reading cannot be obtained , replace TPS sensor.
