Fig. 4 Lower Control Arm Replacement:
2WD MODELS
1. Remove coil spring as described under COIL SPRING.
2. Remove lower ball joint stud, then guide control arm through opening in splash shield and remove from vehicle, Fig. 4.
3. Reverse procedure to install.
AWD MODELS
1. Raise vehicle and support with suitable jackstands. Jackstands must be positioned between coil spring seat and ball joint of lower control arm to obtain maximum leverage against coil spring pressure.
2. Remove front wheel, then loosen splash shield bolts and pivot splash shield to allow access to tie rod.
3. Remove stabilizer bar as described under STABILIZER BAR.
4. Remove shock absorber, inner tie rod and axle shaft nut from hub assembly.
5. Remove drive axle as described in TRANSMISSIONS CLUTCHES DIFFERENTIALS AXLES AND DRIVE SHAFTS/AXLES, DRIVE SHAFTS/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/FRONT AXLE (AWD MODELS).
6. Remove adjusting arm by sliding torsion bar forward, Fig. 4.
7. Remove lower ball joint as described under LOWER BALL JOINT.
8. Remove control arm and torsion bar as a unit.
9. Separate control arm from torsion bar.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
