Road Test Procedure
1. Start engine, depress brake pedal and check gear engagement as follows:
a. Move gear selector from Park to Reverse position.
b. Move gear selector from Reverse to Neutral to Drive position.
. Drive and Reverse engagement should take from one to two seconds at normal operating temperatures, engagement should not be harsh.
2. Start road test by positioning gear selector in the Overdrive position.
3. Accelerate using a steady increasing throttle, compare shift points to the shift point and TCC apply chart.
4. Note speed shift point for TCC apply, which should occur while in third gear or Overdrive. The [1][2]torque converter clutch will not engage if engine operating temperature has not reached a minimum temperature of approximately 13O°F (54°C).
5. To check part throttle downshift, drive vehicle between 40-55 mph, then quickly depress accelerator to a half open position. [1][2]Torque converter clutch should release and an immediate transmission downshift to third gear should occur.
6. To check full throttle downshift, drive vehicle between 40-55 mph, then quickly depress accelerator to a full open position. [1][2]Torque converter clutch should release and an immediate transmission downshift to second gear should occur.
7. To check manual downshift, proceed as follows:
a. Drive vehicle between 40-55 mph, then release accelerator pedal and move gear selector to third gear or drive. [1][2]Torque converter clutch should release, transmission should downshift immediately and engine should slow vehicle down.
b. Move gear selector back to Overdrive and accelerate vehicle to 40 - 45 mph, then release accelerator and move gear selector to second gear. [1][2]Torque converter clutch should release, transmission should downshift immediately and engine should slow vehicle down.
c. Move gear selector back to Overdrive and accelerate vehicle to 25 mph, then release accelerator and move gear selector to first gear. [1][2]Torque converter clutch should release, transmission should downshift immediately and engine should slow vehicle down.
8. To check coastdown downshift, ensure gear selector is in the Overdrive position, then accelerate vehicle until it shifts into fourth gear and TCC is applied. Release accelerator pedal and lightly apply brakes, then check for TCC release and shift points for downshifts.
9. To check manual gear range selection, proceed as follows:
a. With vehicle stopped, place gear selector in third gear and accelerate. Check first to second gear shift point and second to third gear shift point.
b. With vehicle stopped, place gear selector in second gear and accelerate. Check first to second gear shift point. Accelerate vehicle to 25 mph, then ensure a second to third gear shift does not occur and TCC does not apply.
c. With vehicle stopped, place gear selector in first gear and accelerate to 15 mph. Check that a first to second gear shift does not occur and TCC does not apply.
