Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove glove box.
2. Remove engine cover, then drain cooling system.
3. Remove outside air duct and power steering reservoir bracket, if applicable.
4. Disconnect hood release cable, then remove upper fan shroud bolts and overflow hoses.
5. Disconnect transmission cooler lines, then remove radiator.
6. Remove upper fan shroud, then the fan and pulley.
7. Remove air cleaner assembly, then the cruise control servo, if equipped.
8. On carbureted models, disconnect brake vacuum line, cables and fuel line from carburetor.
9. On fuel injected models, disconnect vacuum hoses from intake manifold, then the accelerator, cruise control and TVS cables, as equipped.
10. On all models, remove carburetor or TBI unit and distributor cap, then disconnect AIR hoses from diverter valve. Remove diverter valve.
11. Disconnect coolant hoses, PCV valve, and all vacuum hoses and electrical harnesses that will interfere with engine removal.
12. Discharge A/C system, if equipped, then remove compressor brace and position compressor aside.
13. Remove upper oil dipstick, oil filler and transmission dipstick tubes, then disconnect accelerator cable at dipstick.
14. Disconnect fuel hoses from fuel pump, then remove power steering pump, if equipped, and position aside.
15. If equipped with A/C, remove idler pulley.
16. Remove headlamp bezels, grille and upper radiator support, then the lower fan shroud and filler panel.
17. Remove hood latch support.
18. If equipped with A/C, disconnect lines, then remove condenser from vehicle.
19. Raise and support vehicle, then drain crankcase.
20. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifolds.
21. Disconnect strut rods at flywheel cover, then remove cover.
22. Disconnect starter electrical wires, then remove attaching bolts and starter.
23. On models equipped with automatic transmission, remove flex plate to torque converter attaching bolts.
24. On all vehicles, remove transmission to engine attaching bolts, then the motor mount through bolts.
25. Lower vehicle, then support transmission with suitable jack.
26. Attach suitable engine lifting device, then remove engine from vehicle.
27. Reverse procedure to install.
