Removal and Installation




1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove shift boot and lever.

2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove parking brake cable and propellershaft.

3. Disconnect fuel lines at manifold and purge fuel from system.

4. Remove exhaust pipes, then the slave cylinder from transmission.

5. Remove transmission mounting bolts, then support transmission with a suitable jack and remove catalytic converter hanger.

6. Remove support braces and cross member as necessary to gain clearance, then remove transmission to clutch housing or transmission to engine bolts.

7. Support clutch release bearing. Do not allow transmission to hang from clutch. Remove transmission, noting the following:

a. Pull transmission straight back on clutch hub splines.

b. Rotate transmission counterclockwise, then pull straight back from clutch hub splines.

8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Torque transmission to engine bolts to 35 ft. lbs.
