4L60/4L60-E Automatic Transmission
1. Relieve fuel system pressure and remove fuel lines as follows:a. Ensure transmission is in park, then set parking brake and block drive wheels.
b. Loosen fuel filler cap to relieve fuel tank pressure.
c. Disconnect three terminal electrical connector at fuel tank.
d. Start engine and allow to run until it stops.
e. Engage starter for three seconds to dissipate fuel line pressure.
f. Remove fuel lines.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove air cleaner assembly, then disconnect TV cable at its upper end.
4. Remove transfer case shift lever knob and boot.
5. Raise and support vehicle.
6. Remove skid plate, then drain lubricant from transfer case.
7. Place an alignment mark between transfer case front output shaft yoke and propeller shaft. Disconnect front propeller shaft from transfer case.
8. Place an alignment mark between rear axle yoke and propeller shaft. Remove rear propeller shaft.
9. Disconnect speedometer cable, shift linkage assembly and electrical connectors from transmission. Remove catalytic converter hanger, if necessary.
10. Disconnect shift linkage from transfer case assembly.
11. Remove transmission support strut rods and flywheel cover. Mark flywheel and torque converter for installation.
12. Remove torque converter to flywheel attaching bolts and/or nuts.
13. Disconnect and cap transmission fluid cooler lines.
14. Position a suitable jack under transmission and transfer case assembly.
15. Remove transfer case to frame bracket bolts. Remove mounting bolts and crossmember from vehicle.
16. Remove transmission to engine attaching bolts.
17. Carefully separate transmission from engine and remove from vehicle. In order to remove the upper left transfer case attaching bolts, it is necessary to remove the shift lever bracket mounting bolts from the transfer case adapter.
18. Reverse procedure to install.
