The Hydra-Matic 4L80E is a fully automatic rear wheel drive electronically controlled transmission. It provides four forward ranges including overdrive.

Oil pressure is supplied by a gear type oil pump. Oil pressure is regulated by a force motor solenoid, and shift points are controlled by shift solenoids via PCM/TCM operation. The [1][2]torque converter clutch apply and release is controlled by a pulse width modulated solenoid.

The New Venture Gear 4500 five-speed manual transmission provides synchronized shifting in all forward gears and constant mesh helical gearing for reduced noise.

Other features include an overspeed inhibitor from low to first gears, dual cone low to first gear synchronizer, and a lockout inhibitor from overdrive to reverse gear.

New Venture Gear 5LM60 5-Speed (MG5)
The five-speed 85mm overdrive transmission has a diecast aluminum case. They are in constant mesh and fully synchronized in all forward speeds. Gear shifting is done with a shift tower mounted shift lever.
