Pressure Control Solenoid Check

4L80-E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Pressure Control Solenoid Circuit Check:

Pressure Control Solenoid Circuit:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
The pressure control solenoid is a PCM/TCM controlled device used to regulate transmission line pressure. The PCMfI1CM compares the TP voltage, engine RPM, and other inputs to determine the line pressure for a given load. The PCM/TCM then regulates the pressure by applying a variable amperage to the pressure control solenoid. The applied amperage varies from 0.1 to 1.1 amps.

TEST DESCRIPTION:
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.

1. This test checks the ability of the PCM/TCM to command the pressure control solenoid.

2. This test checks for voltage at PCM/TCM.

3. This test checks internal transmission harness and the pressure control solenoid for low resistance.

4. This test checks for short to ground.

5. This test checks internal transmission harness and the pressure control solenoid for high resistance.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:
Check for poor connections at PCM/TCM and the transmission pass-thru connector.
