Fuel Injector: Description and Operation

Injection Nozzle:

PURPOSE
The fuel injectors supply each cylinder with fuel.

OPERATION
Pressurized fuel is provided to each injector by an injection pump. When the fuel pressure exceeds 1500 psi it overcomes the spring inside the injector, allowing a spray of fuel into the cylinder. As the spring closes the injector the remaining fuel, is routed through the fuel return system.

The injectors used on the diesel engine are screw-in-type poppet injectors. Except for cleaning, the injectors are not serviceable.

The fuel injectors are located on the sides of each cylinder head.
