VCM (Manual Transmission)

DTC 53:

Ignition Feed Circuit (VCM):

Circuit Description:
DTC 53 will set when the engine is running, and the VCM detects a voltage of more than 17.1 volts on VCM terminal "E12". For 2 seconds during the time the fault is present, all VCM outputs will be disengaged and setting of additional DTCs may result.

Test Description:
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.

1. Normal battery output is between 9.6 - 16.0 volts.

2. Checks to see if the high voltage reading is due to the generator or VCM. With engine running check voltage at the battery.
If the voltage is above 12.1 volts, the VCM is OK.

3. Checks to see if generator is faulty under load condition. If the voltage is above 17.1 volts, refer to "Starting/Charging System".

Diagnostic Aids:
During the time the failure is present, all VCM outputs will be disengaged to protect the hardware. The setting of additional DTCs may result. Refer to the section on "Intermittents".
