Antilock Braking System (ABS)

Circuit Description

A DTC 23 relates to the BPMV receiving an erratic signal from the right front speed sensor. This DTC sets after the speed signal leaves and returns three times within one ignition cycle at speeds over 12 mph (brake released) or 20 mph (brake applied). A faulty right front speed sensor, tone wheel, electrical connector, or circuit can cause this DTC to set. Do not replace the BPMV for this DTC. A faulty BPMV will not cause this DTC to set.

Test Description

- Check BPMV 8-way connector pins C and F for looseness, corrosion, etc.
- Measure the resistance of BPMV 8-way connector pins C and F.
- Measure resistance at the right front speed sensor connector.
- Check CKTs 833 and 872 for opens, shorts, or poor connections.
- Inspect the sensor and tone wheel for physical damage or excessive clearance.

Diagnostic Aids

Do not rotate the wheel while measuring speed sensor resistance.

Do not replace the BPMV for this DTC. A faulty BPMV will not cause this DTC to set.

This DTC can only be set by a malfunction in the right front wheel speed sensor and circuit.

Do not pierce the electrical connectors, wires, seals, or insulation during testing. Doing so will break the seal and lead to corrosion and failure of the wiring and terminals.
