DTC 81 2-3 Shift Solenoid Circuit Fault:
2-3 Shift Solenoid Circuit:
Circuit Description:
The PCM continually monitors each circuit connected to the "quad-driver" checking for either low or high voltage on the commanded state of the devices connected. DTC 81 will set if a fault has been detected on the 2-3 shift solenoid circuit. If 2-3 shift solenoid is commanded "ON" by the PCM, the voltage should drop when the solenoid is grounded. If 2-3 shift solenoid is "OFF" and the voltage on the circuit should remain high.
If the solenoid is shorted "OFF" third gear only will occur. If the solenoid is shorted "ON" second gear only will occur.
Test Description:
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
If the voltage stays up for at least 2 seconds, DTC 81 will set. If the voltage drops for more than 2 seconds, DTC 81 will set.
1. This test checks 2-3 shift solenoid and the internal transmission wiring for shorts.
2. This test checks for power to 2-3 shift solenoid from the ignition through the fuse
3. This test checks that CKT 1223 is not shorted to ground.
4. This test checks the ability of the PCM to ground or control 2-3 shift solenoid.
Diagnostic Aids:
Check all connections at the transmission pass-thru connector. Refer to "Diagnosis By Symptom." Testing and Inspection
An open in the circuit can cause multiple DTC's to set.
