Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
5. Disconnect strut rods from flywheel inspection cover, then remove flywheel cover.
6. Remove torque converter attaching bolts to specification, if necessary.
7. Disconnect starter wires from starter, then remove starter motor from vehicle.
8. Remove oil filter, then disconnect electrical connectors from transmission and frame.
9. On models equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect lower transmission cooler line from radiator.
10. Disconnect lower engine oil cooler lines from radiator, if used.
11. Remove lower fan shroud attaching bolts, then the engine mount thru bolts.
12. Remove bellhousing attaching bolts.
13. On all models, lower vehicle. Remove headlamp bezel and grille, then the radiator lower close-out panel.
14. Remove radiator support brace, then the core support cross brace.
15. Remove lower tie bar, then the hood latch mechanism.
16. Unfasten master cylinder and position aside.
17. Remove upper fan shroud, then the radiator upper core support.
18. Disconnect remaining hoses and lines from radiator, then remove radiator from vehicle.
19. On models equipped with A/C, discharge refrigerant from A/C system.
20. On all models, remove radiator filler panels, then the engine cover.
21. On models equipped with A/C, remove brace from back of A/C compressor, then disconnect refrigerant hose from accumulator and remove compressor and bracket.
22. On models equipped with power steering, remove power steering pump.
23. On all models, disconnect all vacuum hoses necessary for engine removal.
24. Disconnect engine harness from bulkhead, then remove right kick panel.
25. Disconnect electrical connector from ESC module and push connector through bulkhead.
26. Remove distributor cap, then, if equipped, the A/C accumulator.
27. Disconnect fuel line from carburetor, then remove diverter valve.
28. Disconnect transmission oil dipstick tube.
29. Disconnect heater hoses from heater core and plug heater core tubes to prevent contamination.
30. Remove horn assembly, then the air injection system check valves.
31. Install engine lifting device and support transmission with a suitable jack.
32. Remove engine from vehicle.
33. Reverse procedure to install.
