UPPER CONTROL ARM AND BUSHING REPLACEMENT
Remove or Disconnect
- The bushing is the C1,2 series control arms are welded in place and are not serviceable.
- Raise the front of the vehicle and support the lower control arm with floor stands. Since the weight of the vehicle is used to relieve the spring tension on the upper control arm, the floor stands must be positioned between the spring seats and the ball joints of the lower control arms for maximum leverage.
Caution: The floor jack must remain under the control arm spring seat during removal and installation to retain the spring and control arm in position or personal injury may result.
1. Tire and wheel assembly.
2. Air cleaner extension, if needed.
3. Brake hose.
- Nut (85) and bolts (87).
- Bracket (86) and the hose.
- Tie the hose out of the way.
4. Upper ball joint from the steering knuckle.
5. Upper control arm attaching bolts (79) and nuts (80).
6. Upper control arm (42).
7. Bushing (84).
Inspect
- All parts for wear and damage.
Install or Connect
1. Bushing (84).
2. Upper control arm (40) to the frame.
Notice: When fasteners are removed, always reinstall them at the same location from which they were removed. If a fastener needs to be replaced, use the correct part number for that application. If the correct part number fastener is not available, a fastener of equal size and strength (or stronger) may be used. Fasteners that are not reused and those requiring thread locking compound will be called out. The correct torque� value must be used when installing fasteners that require it. If the above conditions are not followed, parts or system damage could result.
3. Screws (79) and new nuts (80).
Important
- Refer to mandatory bolt direction.
- Tighten front nut prior to tightening rear nut.
Tighten
- Nuts (80) to 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.).
- The nuts (80) must be tightened with the control arm at "Z" Height.
4. Upper ball joint to the steering knuckle.
5. Brake hose.
- Bracket (86) to the control arm.
- Screws (87) and the nuts (85).
6. Air cleaner extension, if needed.
7. Tire and wheel assembly.
- Check front end alignment.
