Service Procedure
INSPECTION PROCEDURE1. Raise and suitably support vehicle as described in GENERAL IN FORMATION (SEC. OA) in the 1993 Sonoma and Jimmy Models service manual.

2. Inspect shift control cable for date code stamped on exterior cable conduit. The date code may be found approximately 8 inches rearward of the transmission cable control lever (REFER TO FIGURE 1). Cables coded in the area marked with "XXX" with the number 321 or 322 (REFER TO FIGURE 1) must be replaced in accordance with the SERVICE PROCEDURE described below.
NOTE:
ONLY THOSE CABLES IDENTIFIED WITH A DATE CODE OF 321 OR 322 ARE SUBJECT TO THIS CAMPAIGN AS IT PERTAINS TO REPLACEMENT
SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Raise and suitably support vehicle as described in GENERAL INFORMATION (SEC. CA) in the 1993 Sonoma and Jimmy Models Service Manual.
Note routing of shift control cable (10).
3. Remove clip (7) and cotter pin (8), disconnect shift control cable (10) from transmission (35).
4. Lower vehicle.
5. Remove console assembly. Refer to INTERIOR TRIM (SEC. 10A4) in the Typhoon Service Manual Supplement.
6. Remove nuts (9) at floor panel.
7. Remove shift control cable (10) at the floorshift control (17).
8. Remove clip (33) from floorshift control (17).
9. Remove retainer (34) and lift out shift control cable (10).
10. Pull shift control cable (10) through hole in floor panel.
11. Position replacement shift control cable (10) through floor panel.
12. Install nuts (9) at floor panel. Tighten nuts (9) to 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.).
13. Position shift control cable (10) into bracket at floorshift control (17) and install retainer (34) to secure. Install clip (33).
14. Install console assembly. Refer to INTERIOR TRIM (SEC. 10A4) in this manual.
15. Place control lever in "NEUTRAL".
16. Raise and suitably support vehicle as described in GENERAL INFORMATION (SEC.0A) in the 1993 Sonoma and Jimmy Models Service Manual.
17. Direct shift control cable (10) under fuel lines (49), vehicle speed sensor harness (46), and brace (61), if necessary, and through the cable retainer guide (59).
18. Install clip (7) and cotter pin (8) connecting shift control cable (10) to transmission (35).
19. Loosen cable attachment at shift lever.
20. Rotate shift lever clockwise to park detent and then back to "NEUTRAL".
21. Tighten cable attachment to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Lever must be held out of "PARK" when tightening nut.
22. Lower vehicle.
23. Check shift control cable (10) adjustment by rotating control lever through the detents.
24. Connect negative battery cable.
