With Scan Tool
INJECTION TIMINGOriginal factory timing is marked with a static timing mark, which is a circle scribed across both the pump flange and front housing. For the engine to be properly timed, a Tech 1 scan tool must be used. The engine must be "OFF" while the timing is being set.
ADJUST
1. Injection timing.
- Loosen the three pump retaining nuts.
- Engine at operating temperature.
- Connect Tech 1 scan tool.
- Enter "MISC TEST" and select "INJ PUMP".
- Enter "TDC TIME SET".
- Using "MEASURED INJ TIM" set pump to specifications with J 29872.
TIGHTEN
- Pump retaining bolts to 40 Nm (30 lb. ft.).
TIMING SPECIFICATIONS
These are timing specifications which are to be only used with the Tech 1 scan tool. Timing should be set at 3.5° BTDC at IDLE RPM and normal operating temperature.
NOTICE: If timing is not properly set, a DTC 88 will set.
