Engine: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2. Remove coolant reservoir, then the grille, upper radiator support and lower grille valence.
3. Disconnect hoses from radiator.
4. If equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect cooling lines from radiator.
5. If equipped with A/C, evacuate system, then remove A/C condenser and vacuum reservoir.
6. Remove washer reservoir and bracket.
7. Remove radiator to radiator support mounting brackets, then the radiator and shroud.
8. Remove power steering pump, if equipped, and position aside.
9. Remove engine cover.
10. Remove air cleaner stove pipe.
11. Disconnect accelerator cable, then remove TBI unit.
12. Disconnect engine wiring harness from firewall connection.
13. Disconnect heater hoses from engine, then remove thermostat housing.
14. Remove oil filler pipe.
15. If equipped with cruise control, remove servo, servo bracket and transducer.
16. Raise and support vehicle.
17. Disconnect exhaust pipes from exhaust manifolds.
18. Remove propeller shaft, then plug transmission housing to prevent fluid leakage.
19. Disconnect shift linkage and speedometer cable from transmission.
20. Disconnect fuel line from fuel pump, then remove transmission mount retaining bolts.
21. Remove engine mount bracket to frame retaining bolts, then drain crankcase.
22. Remove engine mount through bolts, then raise engine slightly and remove engine mounts.
23. Position a piece of wood between oil pan and front crossmember, then lower vehicle.
24. Attach a suitable engine lifting device, then remove engine/transmission assembly.
25. Reverse procedure to install.
