Evacuating

The tank unit must contain a sufficient amount of R-134a refrigerant for system charging. Check the amount of refrigerant by simultaneously pressing RESET and ENTER on the keypad to enter diagnostic mode. Once in diagnostic mode, press 7, this will display the amount of R-134a refrigerant available in the tank. If less than 8 lbs. is displayed, add new refrigerant to the tank.

1. Connect high side and low side hoses to vehicle A/C system, then open high side and low side valves on unit's control panel.
2. Open red Gas (vapor) and blue Liquid valves on tank. Unit will automatically evacuate for a minimum of 20 minutes to remove air and properly dry A/C system. It is possible to evacuate system for more than 20 minutes. Press keys to enter time desired, then press ENTER; display will blink indicating input of data.
3. Press VACUUM to activate vacuum pump; countdown will begin from 20 minutes to zero to indicate time remaining. Display will indicate RECYCLE 5 seconds after vacuum pump starts and continues while process takes place. Automatic refrigerant recycling is a feature of J 39500-50; no action is required by technician. Control panel Moisture Indicator must be green during recycling verifying refrigerant moisture content is within specifications (yellow indicates a wet condition requiring a filter/drier cartridge change). Air is automatically vented from tank during recycling; an audible sound may be heard, this is normal.
4. After pump has run 3 minutes, press HOLD/CONT key to stop vacuum pump, then proceed as follows:
a. A zero vacuum reading indicates a major system leak. Repair leak and restart evacuation.
b. If a reading of 27-30 inch of Hg is indicated, close low side and high side valves. Observe vacuum level for a few minutes. If vacuum is not maintained, find and repair leak and continue evacuation.
c. If a reading of 27-30 inch of Hg is maintained, open high side and low side valves and press HOLD/CONT key to restart vacuum pump.
5. When evacuation is complete, display shows CPL. Vacuum pump oil must be changed frequently. When pump has run for a total time of 10 hours, OIL will flash on control panel display as a reminder to change oil. If OIL flashes during operation, press CONT and change oil before next operation.
