Service, Parts and Warranty Information

SERVICE PROCEDURE - G VAN
Refer to 1994 service manual for figure of retainer installation; Page 5D1-3, Figure 1.

INSPECTION OF THE PUSHROD RETAINER
This is a blind inspection that requires the technician to reach in on the left side of the steering column and extend his fingers over the top side of the column to determine that the push-rod retainer is properly installed. If the retainer can be rotated 360 degrees in both directions, the retainer has been properly installed.

If the retainer cannot be rotated, slight inward pressure towards the retaining pin, should seat the retainer.

If the retainer comes off or is found not to be in place follow the procedure listed below.

INSTALLATION OF THE PUSHROD RETAINER

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the (4) screws of the knee bolster.

3. Remove the (2) hood cable bracket attachment bolts.

4. Remove the (2) nuts of the upper steering column bracket.

5. Remove the (2) lower steering column bolts and star washers.

6. Apply slight pressure on steering wheel to lower steering column.

Note:
This allows access to the Zero Adjust Brake Switch.

7. Snap retainer into place.

8. Apply tape to hold retainer in set position to allow for re-installation of steering column.

9. Install the (2) lower steering column bolts and star washers.
