Engine: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove engine cover.
2. Drain engine oil and coolant, then remove air intake duct and air cleaner assembly .
3. Remove upper radiator hose and heater hoses from engine, then remove all electrical connectors from TBI unit.
4. Remove accelerator, cruise control, TV cables and related brackets, then disconnect all necessary vacuum hoses.
5. Remove distributor cap and ignition wires, then the distributor.
6. Remove fuel lines and bracket, then the cruise control bracket, if equipped.
7. Remove ignition coil and bracket, the ESC and MAP sensor with bracket.
8. Remove transmission and engine oil dipstick tubes, then the EGR purge valve.
9. Remove two A/C compressor brackets, then the TBI unit.
10. Disconnect wiring at rear of engine, then remove headlamp bezels and grille.
11. Remove bumper filler panel and cruise control servo, if equipped.
12. Remove hood latch and coolant reservoir, then the upper radiator brackets.
13. Remove front end sheet metal cross panel, then the vertical support with electric cooling fan.
14. Discharge A/C system, then remove A/C condenser.
15. Remove windshield washer reservoir and washer pump, then the upper cooling fan shroud.
16. Remove lower radiator hose and heater hose, then the engine oil and transmission coolers.
17. Remove radiator assembly and lower fan shroud, then the cooling fan from pump.
18. Remove drive belt and coolant pump pulley, then the lower radiator hose.
19. Disconnect A/C line from accumulator and alternator, then remove line assembly from back of compressor.
20. Remove right side engine accessory mounting bracket with A/C compressor and idler pulley.
21. Remove power steering pump from bracket. Position pump aside.
22. Disconnect alternator wiring harness, then remove left engine accessory bracket with alternator and belt tensioner.
23. Remove exhaust crossover pipe heat shields, then the crossover pipe.
24. Remove starter motor heat shield, then disconnect starter motor and knock sensor wiring.
25. Remove starter motor assembly, then disconnect transmission wiring.
26. Remove linkage from transmission, then the propeller shaft.
27. Raise engine slightly, then remove engine mount through bolts. Support transmission assembly.
28. Remove transmission crossmember, then disconnect wiring from front of engine.
29. Install suitable engine lifting fixture.
30. Remove engine and transmission from vehicle, then the torque converter cover.
31. Remove torque converter to flywheel bolts, then support transmission and remove engine to transmission bolts.
32. Separate transmission from engine, then remove flywheel.
33. Reverse procedure to install.
