File In Section: 10 - Body

Bulletin No.: 66-16-O4A

Date: August, 1996

Subject:
Driver and/or Passenger Seat Belt Assembly Twists or Binds
(Install New Seat Belt Retractor Assembly)

Models:
1994-1995 Chevrolet and GMC G Vans

This bulletin is being revised to change the color description of 3 part numbers. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 66-16-04 (Group Reference 10 - Body).

Condition

Some owners may report the seat belt webbing may become twisted or binds when trying to draw or retract the seat belt assembly.

Cause

The belt webbing passes through a "D" ring attached to the door pillar anchor plate. As the anchor plate pivots, the seat belt webbing may overlap on itself creating a bind or twist condition in the inner diameter of the "D" ring assembly.

Correction

Install a new seat belt retractor assembly following the Service Manual procedure in Section 10A2. The new retractor assembly incorporates a new "D" ring design that resists belt web twisting.

Important:
In 1994 models, replacement seat belt colors may differ slightly from the originals due to different color tones used in 1995 models.
