Door Hinge Cover - Falls Off

Group Ref.: 10 - Body

Bulletin No.: 461501

Date: August, 1994

SUBJECT:
DOOR HINGE COVERS FALLING OFF (REPLACE COVER)

MODELS:
1994 CHEVROLET G VANS BUILT PRIOR TO VIN BREAKPOINT RF166239 1994 GMC TRUCK G VANS BUILT PRIOR TO VIN BREAKPOINT RF526545

CONDITION:

Some owners may comment that the covers around the door hinges may have started to fall off or will not adhere to the vehicle.

CAUSE:

Production released sixteen adhesive backed door hinge covers for 1994 G-vans with swing-out side doors (RPO E24) and eight covers on the sliding side cargo doors (RPO YA2). Processing and the ambient temperature may not have allowed the adhesive sufficient time to bond with the painted surface. The adhesive backing can then become contaminated and the cover may fall off.

CORRECTION:

Inspect the cover for contaminates on the adhesive back. If debris or contaminates are found, replace the cover according to the service procedure listed below.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Clean the painted contact surface area with rubbing alcohol and allow the surface to dry.

2. Remove the adhesive protective plastic from the cover.

3. Place the cover over the hinge (split end down) and press into place.

4. Use a heating gun or a hand-held dryer to promote a bond of the adhesive.
