Engine Installation

- Tools Required
- J 41427 Universal Lift Brackets, or equivalent






1. Install the engine to the vehicle.
- Disconnect the J 41427 and lifting device.
- ReInstall the intake manifold bolts.
- Tighten the bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
- Raise the vehicle.
- Support the vehicle with safety stands.
2. Install the front engine mounting to frame bolts.
3. Install the transmission to engine bolts. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
4. Install the torque converter to flywheel bolts (if equipped). Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
5. Install the starter. Refer to Starting and Charging.
6. Install the strut rods at the engine mountings.
7. Install the exhaust pipes to the manifolds. Refer to Exhaust System.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Install the vacuum lines.
10. Install the fuel lines.
11. Install the engine wiring harness.
12. Install the generator and bracket. Refer to Starting and Charging.
13. Install the air conditioning compressor and bracket. Refer to Heating and Air Conditioning.
14. Connect the EGR tube to the intake manifold.
15. Install the accelerator and cruise control cables (if equipped).
16. Install the heater hoses. Refer to Heating and Air Conditioning.
17. Install the radiator. Refer to Cooling System.
18. Install the engine cooling fan. Refer to Cooling System.
19. Install the air cleaner. Refer to Powertrain Management.
20. Install the hood. Refer to Hood Replacement in Sheet Metal.
21. Install the proper quantity and grade of engine oil.
22. Install the proper quantity and grade of coolant.
23. Connect the battery negative cable assembly to the battery negative terminal.
- Tighten the bolt to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
