TORQUE CONVERTER BOLTS IMPROPERLY TORQUED
MODELS:
1994 C/K 100/200 WITH M30 (FT. WAYNE ONLY)
ATTENTION
The following campaign was sent via DCS in December 1993. Please retain this copy for your file.
General Motors has determined that certain 1994 C/K 100/200 trucks equipped with 4L60-E automatic transmissions (M30) may have been shipped from the Ft. Wayne assembly plant with some or all of the three transmission torque converter bolts tightened below the specified torque.
To correct this condition. the three torque converter bolts must be torqued to specification. if any of the bolts have fallen out, new bolts must be installed.
VEHICLES INVOLVED
Involved are certain 1994 C/K trucks built at the Ft. Wayne assembly plant within the VIN breakpoints as shown.
The specific vehicles involved in this campaign have been identified by vehicle identification number computer listings. these listings are furnished to all involved dealers with the campaign bulletin.
Dealers should confirm vehicle eligibility through VISS (VEHICLE INFORMATION SERVICE SYSTEM) or SERVICENET prior to beginning campaign repairs.
DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY
All unsold vehicles in dealers' possession and subject to this campaign must be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of this campaign bulletin before owners take possession of these vehicles.
Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners. regardless of mileage, age of vehicle. or ownership, from this time forward.
Owners of vehicles recently sold from your vehicle inventory are to be contacted by the dealer and arrangements made to make the required correction according to instructions contained in this bulletin.
In summary, whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign enters your vehicle inventory. or is in your dealership for service in the future. please take the steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
Owners will not be notified of this campaign by GMC truck division.
Dealers must notify owners of vehicles sold from their inventory and arrange for a service date to complete the repair.
SERVICE PROCEDURES
1. Remove transmission brace rods (if equipped) from torque converter inspection cover.
2. Remove nuts attaching exhaust manifold to exhaust crossover pipe.
3. Remove transmission torque converter inspection cover.
4. Inspect for three torque converter-to-flex plate bolts. if missing, replace with bolt P/N 1261968.
5. Torque all three bolts to 63 Nm (46 lbs.ft.).
6. Install inspection cover and bolts. Tighten bolts to:
-C 1,2 W/4.3L - 33 Nm (24 lbs.ft.)
-C 1,2 W/5.0L/5.7L - 12 Nm (9 lbs.ft.)
-K 1,2 W/ ALL ENGINES - 33 Nm (24 lbs.ft.)
7. Install transmission brace rods (if equipped). Tighten bolts to:
-Inspection cover bolt - 55 Nm (41 lbs.ft.)
-Engine mount bracket nut/bolt - 70 Nm (52 lbs.ft.)
PARTS INFORMATION
Parts are to be obtained from GENERAL MOTORS SERVICE PARTS OPERATION (GMSPO). To ensure parts are obtained as soon as possible. order them from GMSPO on a C.I.O. Order with no special instruction code but order under an Advise Code (2).
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Dealers should submit a warranty claim on each vehicle completed under this campaign.
CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL
Each vehicle corrected in accordance with the instructions outlined in this product campaign bulletin will require a "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL." Each label provides a space to include the campaign number and five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ball point pen.
Each "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" is to be located on the radiator core support in an area which will be visible when the vehicle is brought in for periodic servicing by the owner.
Apply "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" only on a clean, dry surface.
