The parking brake must be adjusted any time the parking brake cables are serviced, or the holding ability is not adequate. Before adjusting the parking brake, check the condition of the service brakes and adjust properly. Refer to Drum Brake Systems / Brake Shoe / Adjustments / Service Brakes. Adjustments
1. Block front wheels, then raise and support vehicle.
2. Loosen adjusting nut at equalizer, Fig. 8.
3. Set parking brake by pushing pedal down 18 degrees, then insert 0.125 inch pin into locating hole (A) in pedal assembly, Fig. 9.
4. Push pedal downward until pin contacts parking brake outer flange.
5. Turn adjusting nut until wheels rotate forward with moderate drag.
6. Release parking brake and rotate rear wheels. There should be no drag.
7. Lower vehicle and unblock front wheels.
