Technician Safety Information

Some service tachometers and electronic diagnostic equipment may NOT be compatible with this ignition system. Consult your representative of such equipment.

1. When making compression tests, disconnect the engine harness connection to the ignition coil.
2. No periodic lubrication of the distributor is required. Engine oil lubricates the lower bushing. The upper bushing is prelubricated and sealed.
3. The tachometer (TACH) terminal is next to the ignition switch (BAT) connector on the distributor cap.

CAUTION: The tachometer terminal must NEVER be allowed to touch ground, or damage to the Ignition control module inside the distributor and/or Ignition coil can result.

4. There is no manual dwell adjustment.
5. The material used to construct the spark plug wires is very pliable and soft. This wire will withstand high heat and carry a high voltage. Due to the more pliable wire, scuffing becomes easier. It is therefore extremely important to route the spark plug wires correctly to prevent chafing or cutting. When removing a spark plug wire from a spark plug, twist the boot on the spark plug and pull on the boot to remove the wire.
6. Allow the engine to cool before removing the spark plugs. Attempting to remove the spark plugs from a hot engine may cause the spark plug to seize, causing damage to the cylinder head threads.
7. Clean the spark plug recess area before removing the spark plug. Failure to do so can result in engine damage due to dirt or foreign material entering the cylinder head, or in contamination of the cylinder head threads. Contaminated threads may prevent proper seating of a new spark plug.
8. Do not install spark plugs that are either "Hotter" or "Colder" than the heat range specified. Using spark plugs of the wrong heat range can severely damage the engine.
9. When removing the spark plug boot do not use pliers or other tools that may tear the boot.
10. Do not force anything between the spark plug wire and the boot, or through the silicone jacket of the wiring.
11. Use special care when installing spark plug boots to ensure the metal terminal within the boot is fully seated on the spark plug terminal and the boot has not been moved on the wire.
