Engine: Service and Repair
Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Underhood light (if equipped).
3. Hood.
- Raise the vehicle and support with safety stands.
4. Body mounts.
5. Front air dam end bolts.
6. Top transmission to engine bolts.
- Lower the body.
- Support transmission with a suitable fixture.
7. Remaining transmission to engine bolts.
8. Second crossmember.
9. Exhaust pipes at manifolds.
10. Catalytic converter hanger.
11. Torque converter cover bolts.
12. Front propshaft at front differential.
13. Torque converter cover.
14. Transmission cooler lines at engine clips.
15. Braces from frame to engine.
16. Motor mount bolts.
17. Flexplate to torque converter bolts.
18. Front splash shield.
19. Lower fan shroud bolts.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Drain the cooling system.
20. Upper fan shroud.
21. Radiator hoses at the radiator.
22. Oil filter pipe at the remote oil filter.
23. Radiator.
24. Fan.
25. Air cleaner.
26. Air conditioning compressor (if equipped).
27. Power steering pump (if equipped).
28. Fuel lines.
- Loosen all fuel line clamps and fasteners from the CMFI unit to the rear of the transmission. Without damaging them, move them to the rear of the engine compartment and tie them in place with a suitable strap.
29. Necessary wires, vacuum lines, and emission hoses.
30. Accelerator cable and cruise control cable (if equipped).
31. Engine wiring harness at bulkhead connector.
32. Heater hoses at the engine.
- Support the transmission.
33. Engine.

1. Engine into the vehicle.
- Raise the vehicle.
Notice: When fasteners are removed, always reinstall them at the same location from which they were removed. If a fastener needs to be replaced, use the correct part number fastener for that application. If the correct part number fastener is not available, a fastener of equal size and strength (or stronger) may be used. Fasteners that are not reused and those requiring thread locking compound will be called out. The correct torque value must be used when installing the fasteners that require it. If the above conditions are not followed, parts or system damage could result.
2. Motor mount through-bolt.
Tighten
- Bolts to specifications.
Pick Up:
- Engine Mount to Engine Bolts 38 Nm (28 Lbs. Ft.)
- Engine Mount to Frame Bolts 45 Nm (33 Lbs. Ft.)
- Engine Mount to Frame Nuts 65 Nm (48 Lbs. Ft.)
- Engine Mount Through Bolts 66 Nm (49 Lbs. Ft.)
- Engine Mount Through Bolt Nuts 56 Nm (41 Lbs. Ft.)
Utility
- Engine Mount to Engine Bolts 38 Nm (28 Lbs. Ft.)
- Engine Mount to Frame Bolts 57 Nm (42 Lbs. Ft.)
- Engine Mount to Frame Nuts 52 Nm (38 Lbs. Ft.)
- Engine Mount Through Bolts 83 Nm (61 Lbs. Ft.)
- Engine Mount Through Bolt Nuts 70 Nm (50 Lbs. Ft.)
3. Lower transmission to engine bolts.
- Raise the body.
4. Upper transmission to engine bolts.
- Lower the body.
5. Body mount bolts.
6. Flexplate to the torque converter.
7. Torque converter cover.
8. Front propshaft.
9. Catalytic converter hanger.
10. Exhaust pipe to the manifolds.
11. Crossmember.
12. Braces from frame to engine.
13. Lower fan shroud bolts.
14. Front splash shield.
15. Transmission cooler lines at the engine clips.
16. Front air dam bolts.
- Lower the vehicle.
17. Engine wiring harness at bulkhead connector.
18. Accelerator cable and cruise control cable (if equipped).
19. Heater hoses.
20. Wires, vacuum lines, and emission hoses.
21. Fuel lines and all clamps.
22. Power steering pump (if equipped).
23. Air conditioning compressor (if equipped).
24. Fan.
25. Radiator.
26. Oil filter pipe at the remote oil filter. Use new O-rings.
27. Radiator hoses.
28. Drive belts.
29. Fan shroud.
30. Coolant into the cooling system.
31. Hood.
32. Underhood light.
33. Negative battery cable.
