Distributor: Service and Repair

Distributor And Coil 4.3L Engine:






REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Verify ignition switch is "OFF".
2. Remove air cleaner and hoses.
3. Disconnect wiring harness connectors at side of distributor.
4. Remove coil wire and spark plug wires on either the left or right side of the distributor.
5. Remove distributor cap by the two screws and set to side:
^ Bring engine to TDC on the compression stroke for the #1 cylinder and align timing marks to 0° TDC.
^ Scribe a mark on the distributor housing in line with the rotor.
^ Scribe a mark on the engine in line with the rotor.
^ Note position of the distributor housing in relation to engine.

6. Remove distributor bolt hold-down clamp, raise distributor noting rotor rotation, then remove distributor and gasket (if applicable).

NOTE: Do not rotate crankshaft with distributor removed from engine.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
To ensure correct timing of distributor it must be installed with rotor correctly positioned as noted in Step 5 of the removal procedure. Line up rotor, mark on distributor housing, and mark on engine. If distributor shaft won't drop into engine, insert a screwdriver into cavity for distributor and turn oil pump driveshaft.

1. Install distributor and gasket (if applicable).
2. Install hold-down clamp and tighten bolt to 27 Nm (20 lb ft)
3. Install distributor cap.
4. Connect wiring harness connectors at side of distributor.
5. Spark plug wires and coil wires.
6. Install air cleaner and hoses.
7. Check engine timing.
