Engine Installation

^ Tool Required
- J 41427 Universal Lift Bracket, or equivalents

NOTE: If you install a new engine, make sure any remaining components, brackets, or accessories are transferred to the new engine.

1. Install the engine.
2. Install the engine mounting to frame bolts.
3. Install the transmission to engine bolts. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
4. Remove the J 41427 using the following procedure:
a. Remove the left J 41427 retaining bolts.
b. Remove the J 41427 marked LEFT FRONT.
c. Install the two left front lower intake manifold bolts.
d. Connect the EGR tube to the intake manifold.
e. Install the air conditioning compressor and the accessory drive bracket. Refer to Heating and Air Conditioning.
f. Remove the right J 41427 retaining bolts.
g. Remove the J 41427 marked RIGHT REAR.
h. Install the two right rear lower intake manifold bolts.
i. Install the distributor cap.
j. Connect the spark plug wires.
5. Remove the support from the transmission.
6. Raise the vehicle.
7. Connect the transmission. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
8. Install the torque converter bolts through the starter opening. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
9. Install the starter and the starter opening shield. Refer to Starting and Charging.
10. Fill the crankcase.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Install the exhaust pipes to the manifolds. Refer to Exhaust System.
13. Install the distributor.
14. Connect the fuel lines from the intake to the rear of the block. Refer to Powertrain Management.
15. Connect the engine wiring harness to the engine. Refer to Powertrain Management.
16. Install the generator and bracket. Refer to Starting and Charging.
17. Connect the heater hoses to the engine. Refer to Heating and Air Conditioning.
18. Install the power steering pump. Refer to Steering and Suspension.
19. Install the air conditioning compressor and bracket (if used). Refer to Heating and Air Conditioning.
20. Connect the power steering reservoir hose and fill with fluid. Refer to Steering and Suspension.
21. Install the radiator. Refer to Cooling System.
22. Install the engine cooling fan. Refer to Cooling System.
23. Install the air conditioning condenser (if equipped). Refer to Heating and Air Conditioning.
24. Connect the cruise control stepper motor electrical connection (if equipped).
25. Connect the cruise control cable to the throttle body bracket (if equipped).
26. Connect the throttle cable to the throttle body bracket.
27. Install the air cleaner assembly.
28. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System.
29. Connect the negative battery cable.
